Braided Catfishing Lines
Braid line has mono
manageability and body, but has the ultra thin diameter, superior strength, and
ultimate sensitivity that you are looking for in a premium braided catfishing
line. Some braided catfish lines have Teflon® treated micro-fibers that make it
super quiet, fly through rod guides giving the catfish angler a longer cast, and
with the Teflon® treated micro-fibers it won't cut into your rod guides. Most
braided catfishing lines are going to a rounded shape that helps reduce "bird
nests" a.k.a. backlashes and helps to not to dig into the line spooled on your
reel. More and more catfishing anglers are changing over to braids for
their main lines but it seems most catfish anglers still prefer monofilament
lines for their leader material.
Monofilament Catfishing Line
Monofilament catfishing lines
offer extreme fighting power for big catfish. Monofilament line seem to have
more abrasion resistant than braided line does - that's why catmen and women
anglers prefer mono line to braided line for their leader line.
Monofilament catfishing line also has more shock absorption an asset need to
land bigger catfish. Catfish have sharp cartilage around their jaws
instead of teeth, but they are razor sharp. Have you ever lipped a 15
pound plus catfish and wound up with some cuts on your fingers and hands?
Well, imagine those sharp boogers digging in to your fishing line. That's
what gives mono the nod for leader material.
In summary
More catfish anglers are making
the switch from monofilament line to braided line for their main fishing line.
You can load more braided line on your reel versus mono line. However,
most catfish anglers still prefer monofilament catfishing line for their leader
material - due to it's thicker diameter and higher abrasion resistance.
Again, we are giving some basic guidance here for catfishing line - another
important factor to remember is what type of catfish, what size, your preferred
method, and the body of water you are on. All of the above mentioned
should play a crucial role when deciding your catfishing line!
